PPF Investment verses ELSS and Recurring Investment return calculator is designed for Tax Payers to compare net gains of monthly investment over a long period of say 15 years and above.

All the tax payer will find that the estimated* gain of monthly investment for 15 years in ELSS is much higher than PPF and bank RD scheme. This gains is more for those who are in higher income brackets. It is also to be noticed that the gain / loss amount calculated hereunder is not taken care with very important issue that interest eanrned in Bank RD scheme is to be included in taxable income of the investor whereas the interest to be earned in PPF account is completely tax free in the hands of the investor and ELSS return is taxed as per LTCG rules.

*Interest Income in case of PPF is Not taxable whereas in case of RD it is taxable in the hands of the Investor.
**Tax Savings During 15 Years calculated as detailed hereunder on the basis of Taxable Income selelcted above and present Tax rates / slabs

# The expected return and comparative Gain amount of PPF and ELSS investments displayed here are estimated amount calculated on the basis of your all inputs, current PPF interest rate and current year Income Tax slabs that will remain same till the period of PPF maturity of 15 years. The actual return and gain amount may vary on change of any of your inputs

The above comparative calculaitions shows that PPF is good choise for investment in place of RD for a Taxpayer and ELSS is even better than PPF. Interest rate in PPF is fixed by Govt. which is now being reviewed quartely. In recent past the interest rate has been reduced drastically. In 2002 it was 12% and in 2010 it was 9%. Keeping in view of this trend of interest rate payable in PPF and the historical return in ELSS scheme investment for a long term investment is quite higher than 11%, however it is also noted that the investment in ELSS is market risk and no guarantee of return is avaialbale here.
